Product Safety

MMI takes product safety very seriously. We have a Product Safety committee which includes two members of senior management and is overseen by the company president. This committee stays on top of all product safety issues and researches new federal and state regulatory requirements as they become available.

Our product testing focuses on the following regulations:

  • RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC and its subsequent amendments, which deals with the chemical content in the materials of the product. The test is specifically for lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium and PBBs/PBDEs.
  • FCC/CE Certification for USB drives
  • 16 CFR 1303 Total Lead Content Requirements for our imprint ink, pvc materials, pen ink, pens and USB drives
  • CPSIA Total Lead content in substrate for PVC custom shape materials
  • CPSIA Total Lead content in surface coating for imprint inks
  • 16 CFR 1500.44 / 16 CFR 1500.3 Flammability

We require all of our factories to provide product safety certificates showing compliance to all applicable standards for USB drives and pens. These deal mostly with lead content in the bodies of the pens and USBs as well as the pen ink cartridges and the ink used for imprinting.

Our products are subject to thorough 3rd party testing by an accredited lab, and exceed standards required. They are not designed for, or intended for use by children, and do not fall under the CPSC's definition for a "Children's Product." General Conformity Certificates (GCC's) are not required for our products.

Our products and decorating inks meet or exceed applicable Federal requirements for lead content and to our knowledge do not contain chemicals at concentrations that would require a Proposition 65 warning label. However, we cannot test every piece of every order for the nearly 800 chemicals listed in Prop 65. Distributors with concern about Prop 65 should request that a warning label be applied to each product, which we will include at no additional charge.

Our standard bio-bag packaging meets ASTM D6868 and ASTM D6954 standards for biodegradable bags. They are not compostable under California law. If you will be shipping or using our standard packaging in California, and are concerned about the labeling "biodegradable," we can provide packaging alternatives without this label at no extra charge. Please request this service when placing your order.

Certificates, test results and MSDS sheets are available upon request.

California Proposition 65 Compliance

Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, was enacted as a California ballot initiative in November 1986. The Proposition was intended by its authors to protect California citizens and the State's drinking water sources from chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, and to inform citizens about exposures to such chemicals. The statute states that "no person in the course of doing business shall knowingly and intentionally expose any individual to a chemical known to the state (California) to cause cancer or reproductive toxicity without first giving a clear and reasonable warning..."

For more information about California's Prop 65, please click here.

MMI is committed to providing safe and compliant products for our customers. Our products and decorating inks meet applicable Federal requirements for lead content and to our knowledge do not contain chemicals at concentrations that would require a Proposition 65 warning label. However, we cannot test every piece of every order for the nearly 800 chemicals listed in Prop 65. Distributors with concern about Prop 65 should request that a warning label be applied to each product, which we will include at no additional charge. The warning label as shown below will ensure compliance with California Proposition 65 regulatory requirements:

Warning: This product may contain chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Distributors must specifically request that the warning label be applied when submitting their order. If buyer and/or distributor fail to provide MMI with advance written notice indicating that prop 65 labels are required, then buyer and/or distributor will indemnify and hold harmless MMI, its agents, employees, and affiliated companies from and against all claims (including, without limitation, violation of Prop 65, personal injury and property damage) and from all other costs, liabilities, damages, and expenses (including, without limitation, attorney fees, costs, and litigation expense).

MMI Code of Conduct

We require our factory partners to provide compliance and testing certificates showing adherence to all applicable safety and regulatory standards, and to complete and sign a social responsibility scorecard. Here at MMI, we know the issues of product safety and social compliance are serious and we believe in taking a proactive stance. We take all necessary steps so that our customers can feel confident that the products we ship are safe, compliant, and of high quality that exceed expectations.

MMI Quality Control

At MMI we pride ourselves on providing only the highest quality products to our customers. To ensure that all products meet quality standards, we require all of our overseas factories to undergo thorough audits, and we have a dedicated QC team in-house who inspect every order processed through our Seattle facility. Every drive is performance tested at least 3 times in the factory. In addition, all orders must pass a QC test in our local warehouse that includes testing for over 15 criteria on random samples from the order.

These criteria include the categories:

  • Imprint quality durability
  • Item construction, quality and durability
  • Tech testing
  • Function testing
  • Packaging quality
  • Accessories quality
  • Added services accuracy and completeness

MMI Audit Policy

MMI is committed to providing our customers with high quality products that are safe, that are manufactured in an ethical and socially responsible way. We are committed to working only with factory partners who share the same values. Every factory we work with must pass both internal and 3rd party audits prior to acceptance as an MMI business partner.

The Internal Audit includes but is not limited to:

  • Certification inspection
  • Quality control inspection
  • Sample testing
  • Social compliance scoring

The 3rd Party Audit includes, but is not limited to:

  • Physical inspection of factory for social compliance, labor conditions and safety
  • Quality control inspection

All MMI factories must pass both audits, commit to MMI's Code of Conduct and sign the social compliance scorecard.

MMI Customer Data Security Policy

MMI ensures that customer's data is safe and secure from any possible outside intrusion. Implementing network security and Microsoft Windows Data Storage Server best practices, MMI protects customer's sensitive data from unauthorized access from user inside and outside our network.

MMI's Data Storage Servers are locked in a secured room with limited access only by authorized personnel. All access to data is controlled through MS Windows Security Policies. All MMI's data servers are protected by industry standard Anti-Virus program. Mission critical servers are connected to UPS power Supplies for safe shut down of our systems upon failure of the primary electrical power source.

MMI's internal network infrastructure is protected by a redundant firewall to provide IP Filtering, intrusion detection, additional anti-virus and malware detection. Our data servers are isolated from our public network to remove any possible vulnerability that may exist from being connected to the Internet.

Customer data load is performed by an authorized MMI employee. The files are copied to a master USB Drive for sole purpose of duplication. All duplication is carried out using commercial grade duplication equipment ensuring limited access to raw data during the duplication process.

Additional documents, including CE, FCC and RoHS reports and certification are available to our Distributors only. Please request through your Sales Rep and we will be happy to provide them.
